- Bio
After Austria I worked as a nanny in Germany because I didn't want to lose my ability to speak German. The plan was also to practise on other people's children before settling down and having my own. I married in 1973 and lived with my first husband in Germany and Kuwait. We had 3 children, moved back to England and divorced in 1981. A few years later I married my home teacher, John Oldroyd :-) and had 2 more children.
John and I now live alone in our big house so there's plenty of room for my friends from the Austria Mission who would like a trip to England. Our local (Huddersfield) chapel is a Stake House and Family History Centre right in the middle of Great Britain. John is assistant High Priests Group Leader and I am R S Compassionate Service Leader.
Recently whilst doing Family History I felt inspired to do my paternal grandmother's line and discovered church members in Boise, Idaho who had got the line back to 1698. We needed help getting started and they needed help doing the work. We have a temple 45 minutes drive away and other family members who can also do the work so this is a miracle for both families. John and I love to go attend the temple early in the morning.
I would love to know how my friends from 1969 to 1971 in the Austria Mission are getting on. I often think about everyone. We have seen Matthias Leben and Mchael Schulze and their families because our eldest daughter lives in Hannover Stake boundaries. Not long ago we gathered round the piano in Michael's house with Matthias playing and sang hymns together just like old times.
I retired in November 2008 because I was finding it increasingly difficult to use the computer mouse and kept typing spaces and extra letters in my work. I was also feeling quite disorientated and kept banging into things, tripping up or falling over. Now that I have a diagnosis I'm not exactly happy but I see it as another challenge that will add a new dimension to my life. Having Parkinsons actually helps me understand many of the sisters I am called to serve so in that respect it is a positive thing. It also comes in quite handy when I'm sprinkling my vegetable seeds:-)
